International Youth Fellowship World Camp Opening Ceremony Mind Lecture

THE HONOURABLE MINISTER FOR YOUTH AND SPORTS
MR LAISENIA TUITUBOU

Address for International Youth Fellowship World Camp Opening Ceremony Mind Lecture at Civic Centre, Suva on Wednesday 08th June at 9.00am.

• Participating youths in the International Youth Fellowship Fiji World Cultural Camp
• Ladies and gentlemen,

An-nyeong-ha-se-yo and ni sa bula vinaka once again.

I am optimistic that you have all enjoyed yourselves thus far during this very first International Youth Fellowship Fiji World Cultural Camp. I have no doubt of that fact and I wish you the best for these remaining 2 days.

I had been approached to contribute to the proceedings today and to offer each of you an insight as to how best you as young people can truly reach your potential, if not today then maybe in the very near future as I have always held onto the belief that youths are destined for greater things if only they set their minds on the right course of action and tenaciously strive towards it.

Your potential is locked deep with you and only you have the keys to unlock it. You may be led astray by something or someone but find it in yourself to seek out your true worth in order to realize it. There is many a case that can be argued that youth of today are lazy and are accustomed to being provided with all their needs and whims but I refuse to believe that you are such! The world sees you differently because you yourselves see it the same. I challenge you to mold a newer image of yourself so as to lead the rest of us to see as you really are; our hope for a better future.

As was alluded to during the opening ceremony by the Hon. Prime Minister, the challenges and experiences of youth are not exclusive to only one part of the world. The very same stumbling blocks and hardships faced by our young people here in the Pacific region can be mirrored with those in vastly developed countries around the world.

In this modern era, young people need to make wise choices, choices which will not only have an effect on the present but will have a resounding impact on the impending future, a future that will be cemented by the choices you make today therefore I urge you to weed out the negativity and let nothing but that which will ensure success be prevalent in your individual lives.

I hope you will make the most out of this World Cultural Camp by engaging actively and participating fully in the remaining cultural exchanges that will undoubtedly open your eyes to new experiences and teach you many important lessons.

Permit yourselves to the extremities and possibilities that attending such wonderful interactive gatherings pose because only then can you learn and pass on this knowledge.

Furthermore, I want to challenge all you young people present here to become the best versions of yourselves that you can possibly become which is evidently what this IYF World Cultural Camp hopes to achieve, for you, the young people to grow to your full potential.

At this pinnacle event on the IYF Calendar, I have no doubt that you will all be enriched in your experience during this World Cultural Camp. As you are taken through the “World of the Heart” and taught its importance, we trust that you will ultimately know and discern who you really are and will embrace in all certainty each other’s differences and overcome any difficulties and limitations you may experience.

On that note I wish you enjoy the rest of today’s programs and that you bear in mind the purpose and reasoning behind your attendance at this IYF World Cultural Camp.

Vinaka Vakalevu and Thank You and kamsahamnida.
