In a significant step towards enhancing youth employability and fostering entrepreneurship, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Lautoka Office has launched a Men’s Barbering Training program for 20 unemployed youths. This initiative is aimed at equipping participants with essential skills needed in the barbering industry, opening doors for future employment and business opportunities.
The training, currently in full swing, is being facilitated by Fiji National University, which is renowned for its commitment to vocational education and skill development. The program not only provides theoretical knowledge but also practical experience, ensuring that participants are well-prepared to enter the workforce or start their own ventures.
One of the enthusiastic trainees, Mr. Sanaila Bula, a member of the Teidamu Youth Club, expressed his excitement about the training and the opportunities it presents. “I have been cutting hair in my settlement for some time now, but I knew I had room to grow. This training will really assist me in boosting my small business. I’m eager to learn new techniques and improve my skills,” Sanaila said, showcasing the determination and entrepreneurial spirit of the participants.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports aims to create a supportive environment for youth, especially those facing unemployment. This training program not only addresses the skills gap in the community but also empowers young individuals to take charge of their futures. By fostering self-reliance and encouraging entrepreneurship, initiatives like this are crucial in combating youth unemployment and promoting economic growth.
As the training continues, participants are gaining valuable insights from the experienced instructor, Ms. Rayelene Bennion, and are encouraged to collaborate, share ideas, and support one another. This spirit of camaraderie is a vital part of their journey towards becoming proficient barbers and successful entrepreneurs.
The Lautoka Office is optimistic about the impact this program will have on the local community, hoping to see a new generation of skilled barbers emerge from this initiative. As the graduates step into the workforce, they carry with them not just technical skills but also the confidence to pursue their dreams and contribute positively to society.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports remains committed to providing more such training programs and workshops, ensuring that the youth of Fiji are equipped with the necessary skills for a brighter future.
