Salutation:

  • Invited Guests;
  • Participants;
  • Ladies and Gentlemen;

Bula Vinaka and a very good afternoon to you all.

Today marks a special day for you all as it brings to a closure this important training on Care-Giving.

This training was the result of various interactions with your communities and the Training Needs Analysis which identified the interests amongst youth in undertaking Care Giving Courses because of its potential employment opportunities locally and abroad.

A caregiver or carer, Ladies and Gentlemen is an unpaid or paid person who helps another individual with an impairment with his or her activities of daily living. Any person with a health impairment might use caregiving services to address their difficulties.

Care giving qualifications are a requirement now to be an aide in the hospitals and related fields such as an Old People’s Home and other care related homes.

It does not limit this important qualification to these institutions as it is also recognized for work in hotels in terms of supervision of children when tourist families come for a holiday.

Fijians are well known for Care Giving in a number of developed countries such as Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America. This calling in itself can be a pathway for youth to gain employment overseas and support their families back home.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m also delighted to be amongst you this evening to officially hand over the new barber shop.

Today as you receive the handover, please bear in mind that this is an indication of how truly committed this Government is towards all forms of development. I want to reiterate that you make full use of this assistance to help bolster your skills and talents as well as to strengthen your profile as a youth club in these surrounding areas.

Remember that you have my full support and that of the ministry. It is our hopes that this timely boost will go a long way in your activities and that you continue to contribute positively to your community.

I also wish to challenge you, to increase your income generation through your projects. Continue to work with us for your benefit while at the same time uplift your community as you stride towards the future.

With those words, I congratulate you all and wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

Thank you and God Bless.
