We are indeed grateful and appreciative to be hosting one of the premier events in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) calendar, namely the World Cadet Challenge in Fiji.
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the organizers ITTF for considering Fiji as the hosting nation. A very warm welcome to the participating countries, respective participating players and officials.
Fiji continues to showcase that we are capable of hosting such international events that portrays high level of dedication and commitment from players, officials and those involved. Hosting such events provides us with an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to promote the Fijian brand, Fijian sport and to excel in the field of all sporting activities.
This year we will be hosting 8 teams namely from Africa, Asia, Europe, ITTF Oceania, Fiji-Pacific, Latin America and North America. Further the total number of persons involved amount to 125 from 42 countries. This in itself speaks volumes and shows the continued support table tennis has received in many countries as well as here in Fiji. Table tennis is an all-inclusive sport, easy to play and most significantly is not dominated by a specific gender. The Fijian Government and the Fijian Table Tennis Association will assist in every way possible to attain the ITTF slogan “Building the Next Generation of Champions”.
To all the players, this Championship provides you with an opportunity to pursue your dreams and marvel personal attainments. So as you compete, give it your best, play true and play fair. At the end of the event should the results not go in your favour, please do remember the famous phrase “it is not about winning always, sometimes it is all about participating”.
I sincerely hope that you will enjoy the Fijian hospitality, and take wonderful experiences and moments with you that will entice you to visit Fiji in the near future, either as a sporting ambassador or for your holidays.
