The Acting Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Maciu Nalumisa officially opened the 2023 Coca Cola Games held at the HFC Stadium Today (27:04:23)
The Acting Minister said sports, in particular, athletics have brought us all here today. Over the years, we have seen some of our young ones who begin from this very platform making their mark at the national and international level. Some have even moved on to join our very own national rugby team and overseas clubs as professional ruggers.
Hon. Nalumisa also stress that sports instills a variety of moral principles that can motivate future generations. People can only properly access and share these ideals by turning it into a career. No matter their background , all young people should value traits like mental toughness, the value of fitness, and team work.
Minister Nalumisa said that through active sports like this, production and efficiency are increased, needles sickness or diseases are eliminated, and eventually the rising rate of NCDs along with deaths caused by them is reduced.
"As alluded by the Honourable Prime Minister in one of his remarks that sports is an industry and the People's Coalition Government is working to make Fiji the sporting hub of the Pacific. And Why not? We have this coke Games annually which is the biggest athletics meet in the entire South Pacific Island Region.
The Acting Minister for Youth and Sports wished all the participants a healthy and constructive deliberation, thanking all the participants of the Coca Cola Games 2023.
The Fiji Secondary School Finals take place today till saturday at HFC Stadium.(29:04:23)
