The Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Jese Saukuru opened the Special Olympics Fundraising Dinner at Vineyard Restaurant in Suva on Friday (21:04:23)
In his opening address, the Minister highlighted the role of Sports in raising awareness on those with disabilities.
"People with disabilities in developing countries face major barriers that limit their independence as well as access to and participation in sports and physical activities, " he said.
Your Government, will continue to support you interms of Sports Development in our country through the Fiji National Sports Commission.
"On behalf of all your fellow Fijians, I want to thank each of you for the effort and dedication you put forward while competing for your country. Some of you have faced incredible obstacles throughout your lives, but you’ve overcome those obstacles, you’ve earned your places on Team Fiji," he said.
Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Jese Saukuru thanked the organizers of the event for such events that contribute positively in the preparation of our Team in this year's Special Olympics Games that will be held in Berlin.
To the Team Fijian Special Olympians, You've inspired us all today. Your huge smile and your positive energy are contagious; in the face of any hardship or obstacles that life has thrown at you, those smile shine through all," he said.
"We are Fiji and all the best to the team Fiji that will represent us in Berlin on the 17-25th of June," he said.
