The Minister for Youth and Sports Hon.Jese Saukuru received a courtesy call from the United Nations Special Representative of Secretary General on ending violence against children, Ms Najat Maalla M'jid, the UN Resident Coordinator based in Fiji, Mr Sanaka Samarasinha and the Delegations of the United Nation in the Ministry Headquaters today (19:04:23)
Hon.Saukuru and United Nations Special Representative of Secretary General on ending violence against children, Ms Najat Maalla M'jid, who led a delegation from the UN, held discussions on opportunities to advance Fiji’s interests through stronger collaboration focusing on the key priority areas of youth empowerment and elimination of violence against children, women's and girls.
The Minister also highlighted that the Ministry of Youth and Sports is committed to empowering Fijian youth in becoming advocates for change.
He also spoke on the importance of youth being provided with resources to prepare them for the future, adding that education whether formal or non-formal was also fundamentally important.
The Minister for Youth and Sports said that the Ministry looks forward to working with the UN in the future.
The United Nations Special Representative of Secretary General on ending violence against children,Ms Najat Maalla M'jid. Said their main priority is to engage with the youth in Fiji and work together to eliminate violence against children in Fiji.
Director of Youth and Sports, Mr Philip Heriniko thanked their assistance, saying that they are looking forward to future collaboration for the betterment of Youth Development in Fiji.
