Good governance in sports is a foundation for building sports excellence in the country.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Youth and Sports Hon.Jese Saukuru while officially opening the Burger King Bula Business House Futsal Soccer League held at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva yesterday (05.04.23).
Hon. Saukuru highlighted the importance of staying away from performance enhancing substances in Sports.
He said that Government has taken a step forward in the National Anti- Doping Policy, adding that we must show our fellow Pacific Islanders the best practice in sports and create a clean sporting environment in the pacific.
"Your Government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, promotes values and social cohesion through national sports,"he said.
"Sports tournaments help a healthy, vibrant and physical active nation and promote health and wellness through partnership – based programmes."
The Minister of Youth and Sports said that Government regards Sports as a multi tool; it is a career; it keeps you fit; it brings us teamwork; discipline; integrity; leadership; will to win; creates a healthy nation; and keeps one away from Non Communicable Diseases.
Hon. Saukuru encouraged all the participants to behave in a way which brings pride to Fiji Futsal, urging them to be humble in both victory and defeat.
