It was a day of fun-filled activities for the residents of Nasinu who gathered together for the inaugural Vesida Community Family Fun Day which coincided with Easter Monday today (10.04.23).
The Minister for Youth and Spots Hon. Jese Saukuru, while officially opening the Vesida Community Family Fun Day, said that while everyone was unique, we all shared a common mission of promoting the wellbeing of the youth.
The event with its theme of, “Together as One”, brought together communities and families that have migrated locally and overseas, aiming to build a better ,safer community and future for the youth.
Hon. Saukuru also congratulated the 2023 women’s champion who defeated the current and reigning champion under the Kinoya Volleyball Association.
“I believe that the establishment of such an environment is conducive to promote unity, harmony and good relationships that will definitely boost the morale of the youth,” he said.
With sports activities included in the programme, he said sports have long been regarded as an important enabler.
“For us in the Pacific, it has proven to be unifier as well, bringing our different communities together in an inclusive way.”
“On that note, I also wish to reiterate the Government's unending support towards the development of all sports and the promotion of sports for Development programmers ‘like the one you are here to participate in today,” he added.
The Vesida community has started its community approach by creating and forming a committee that will oversee the initiation of programmes to support the community’s theme of “Sustainable Future” and its implementation through a structured framework that will guide the community and youth in the next three years.
