Director Youth and Sports Mr. Philip Hereniko officially closed the Wainibuka Young Leaders Capacity Building Training at Nabulini Village in Wainibuka last Friday (24.02.23).
The training included 44 youth leaders from nine villages in the tikinas (districts) of Wailevu, Nayavu and Nailega.
It comprised of Youth Presidents, Assistant Presidents, Treasurers, and Secretaries.
Youth leadership training is a crucial part of building the capacity of young people to become effective leaders in their communities. It is a process of equipping young people with the necessary skills, knowledge, and values that are essential for their leadership roles.
The primary objective of the training programme was to equip young leaders with skills, knowledge, and values that are essential for their leadership roles. The training programme also aimed to provide the participants with the following:
1. Sauvaki ni Vanua (Traditional Protocols)
2. Ketekete ni Marama (Transfer of women’s traditional knowledge)
3. Village Awareness
4. Cultural & Traditional
5. Resource based Literacy
6. Savings & Investment
7. Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights
Director Hereniko stressed out the importance of knowing your traditional values, customs and culture as these represent one's identity.
He thanked the trainees for their interest during the week-long training and acknowledged the parents for their support throughout the programme.
