MINISTRY EMPOWERS 742 YOUTH

In efforts to support the on-going development of young people, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has empowered a total of 114 youth after completing two health-related empowerment trainings this week.

While closing the Empowerment Training on Health and Well-being held at the Mataniciva Hall in Toorak yesterday, the Minister for Youth and Sports Hon.Parveen Kumar said the trainings were done to enable them to actively contribute to their communities and society.

He confirmed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports has conducted a total of five Empowerment Trainings on Health and Wellbeing in this financial year whereby a total of 220 youth participants have benefitted as a result.

“At a very basic level, this workshop is about doing what is right for our youth, right now we are faced with COVID-19 Pandemic, the impact of Cyclone Yasa and more warnings on strong winds, more rain and flash floods,” Minister Kumar said.

Assistant Minister Hon. Alipate Nagata while officiating at the closing of the second Empowerment Training focused on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and said that the knowledge imparted from the programme will provide these youth a foundation of practical health and medical knowledge, well-being, and respect.

Speaking at the event held at Waiqanake village in Lami , the Assistant Minister said the training programmes are not limited to providing non–formal education but includes the areas of sports and development of sporting facilities too.

He said the Ministry of Youth and Sports has conducted a total of nine Empowerment trainings on SRHR during this financial year.

A total of 408 youth have benefitted and have been empowered as a result.
