 YOUTH HEALTH AND WELLBING A PRIORITY FOR GOVERNMENT

The Fijian Government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, prioritizes the health and well-being of youths.

While closing the Empowerment training on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) training today, the Minister for Youth and Sports Hon.Parveen Kumar Bala highlighted that for most young people, their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are a crucial part of their lives. “This training and the knowledge it brings, in turn, enables young people to make more informed decisions regarding their own sexual health and rights,” Minister Bala said.

He said that the Government is committed in providing workshops and short courses to individuals.

“To support the on-going development of young people, this empowerment training focused on empowering the youth participants with information to help them make healthy lifestyle choices and skills to be able to actively contribute to their communities and society,” he said.

Meanwhile, youth participant Mr. Alvin Prasad said after completing the workshop , he feels motivated to create awareness on sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV, AIDS and teenage pregnancy to youths in his community.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports, in the financial year of 2020/2021, has conducted a total of five trainings on SRHR to which a total of 232 youths have benefitted and have been empowered as a result.

The event, which was a five-day training that took place at the LDS Church Hall in Nausori, saw a total of 55 youth participants graduate from the SRHR training today.
