Use forum for meaningful dialogue; Hon. Nagata

Participants in this this week’s Western Youth Conference were this morning urged by Assistant Minister for youth and Sports Honourable Alipate Nagata to use the meet for meaningful dialogue.

Officiating as chief guest at the opening at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi, Hon. Nagata told the youths that the forum is for meaningful dialogue and youth development and avenues for building our future success for all young Fijians.
“This forum has no place for youths to be political and I encourage you all to remain apolitical and focus on serving all Fijian youths in the communities,” he said. “This forum is a forum for meaningful dialogue and youth development and avenues for building our future success for all young Fijians.”

“It is therefore important that we as young people of this nation focus on our development based on the nation’s 5 year and 20 year National Development Plan. Let’s align ourselves to Governments plan for the development of young Fijians which will ensure a brighter and successful future for our nation” he further said.

Themed “Empowering youth to be agents of change and promoting sports for development” the three day conference is aimed to improve outreach to all youths.
“We can agree, that participation in meets such as the Western Division Youth Conference ensures that you meet other young people and youth workers from different parts of the western division who share common interests,” Hon. Nagata said. “This networking of youths is part of this governments programmes in engaging youths and creating a vibrant social space for nurturing young potential leaders of Fiji.”
“I sincerely hope that this conference will be beneficial to you all and I urge you all to use this opportunity to play your part and contribute, learn and develop good networking skills with you peers,” the Minister adds.
Reiterating government’s policy for inclusiveness Hon. Nagata said that the ministry is committed to ensure that educational, leadership and employment opportunities is offered to young developing Fijians.
“As a Ministry we are here to serve all young people of this nations and do make use of the Ministry’s programmes and explore all avenues available that help you become successful,” he said.
Fijian youths from the provinces of Nadroga/Navosa, Ba and Ra are represented in the conference which concludes Thursday.
