Date: 10/12/2018

About 30 youths from the Eastern Division were told this morning that consider starting their own businesses and take advantage of Government initiatives.

Addressing the youths at a two day workshop in Suva this morning Ministry of Industry and Trade Director Economics Sekove Tamanitoakula told the youths of Governments commitment towards their development and the various schemes in place to assist them.

“Government is very accommodating when it comes to starting your own businesses and there are programmes in place that specifically targets youths of this country,” he said. “These initiatives include the Young Entrepreneur Scheme (YES) and the Micro and Small Enterprise Scheme.”

“Young people in our country are fortunate that we have a Government that is focused on their growth and development and has put in place clear pathways to enable business establishment and growth,” he said.

“It has always been a challenge for us who come from outer islands to establish ourselves in the mainland and for many our aim is to get a degree and later get a job,” he adds.

Mr Tamanitoakula further said that sacrifice, hard work and a commitment towards their dream will ensure their success in life.

“Remain focused and disciplined and try and keep it simple. All big things begin small and your perseverance and commitments toward your goals will be realised,” he said. “Use workshops such as these to establish networks and communicate with government officials who will link you to the right Ministry or Department regarding your business ideas.”

The two day workshop themed “Start your own business” will also see participants visiting successful agro based businesses in the Central Division.
