Youths from three villages in the province of Ra have successfully completed 3 successful weeks of training on personal development and self-improvement.
Dubbed the ‘Seed of Success’ workshop, the training saw 90 youths from Namataveikai, Malake and Bucalevu village attending.
Facilitated and funded by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the training workshop focused mostly on changing the youths’ attitude to focus on their self-development.
Youth ministry staff Keasi Delana said the Seed of Success training, when completed successfully, enables the youth to know what is required of them in their community and to develop their potential.
“We all want to grow up successful in our communities and in a rural setting it means being ‘someone’ in your villages and settlements,” Delana said. “The Seeds of Success training helps the youths reflect on themselves and identify their role in their communities and once they do, they can focus on their personal development to achieve their full potential.”
“The workshop also teaches the youths to create a personal development plan for self-improvement and instils in youths the importance of time management which is directly linked to general and financial discipline and success” Mr Delana said. “Primarily we want to introduce in them a desire for success and one of the first great laws for success is setting the right goal.”
Headman and Mataiveikai village youth advisor, Jovilisi Muloca, said every youth needs to attend training or workshops to help them develop into mature persons.
“Every youth needs to attend this type of training. It helps them to refocus in life and plan well for their future irrespective of where they are” he said. “The training also opens up the world of ideas for our youths tapping into their resourcefulness which will be an advantage when obstacles and setbacks may arise.”
Supporting Mr Muloca, Malake youth Miriama Adikuru, said such training will improve financial literacy especially on the budgeting aspects.
“This training has taught me to budget my income well and control my spending so that my family does not suffer,” she said. “I have gained many new things from this training. Now I understand myself better, know my role as a youth in my community and what I should do to build myself up in order to be a good person in life” she added. “We are sowing the seeds in Ra now and I remain positive that villages and the province as a whole will benefit from it.”
