Lau and Rotuma Empowerment Training a success

Suva, November 17 “We are building our future leaders; we want to inspire youths to address the daily challengers they face; we want youths to become role models and leaders of today” said the Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr. Iliesa Delana, while closing the Lau Rotuma Youth Empowerment Training yesterday.

More than 30 young participants attended the training facilitated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in partnership with the University of the South Pacific. 
The Honourable Assistant Minister said, “The Ministry of Youth and Sports is mandated to propel the youth sector in Fiji forward and as such we intend to create a culture of diverse networking among youth groups and stakeholders.”
“We believe that youths should be able to contribute equally to decision making processes and be recognised in the development of our country, your communities and families.”
One of the participants Ms. Jacquelyn Amelia Savea commended the training facilitated by the Ministry and commented that the training outcomes will assist her in the future.
“This workshop is a good opportunity to gain more significant leadership skills in becoming good and successful leaders,” she said. “It also helps in being more consistent and realistic when setting goals, being organised with schedules and pushing aside procrastinations.”
Another participant from Rotuma, Mr. Kitione Fesaitu Mua, shared similar sentiments towards the training.
“I will use the techniques learnt during the workshop to become a better leader with a good character and have the ability to influence and empower other youths in my community.” He said.
