Youths to draw from ILO careers training

A two day Training of Trainers (ToT) course on careers counselling facilitated by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth and Sports concluded at the Ministry’s Headquarters yesterday.
The objective of the training is to assist youths in learning labour standard mechanisms when preparing to find a job, creating their own job and keeping a job.
25 youth participants attended the two days training which included youth presidents, youth leaders and members from various youth clubs.

One of the youth coordinators, Brandon Sudhakar acknowledged the training provided by the ILO and the Ministry of Youth and Sports saying: “Many youths in our locality are qualified individuals, however they do not have the basic skills of writing an application letter or giving a job interview,” he said.
“This training will greatly assist me in communicating the learning objectives to the rest of my youth club members,” Mr. Sudhakar said.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, the Honourable Laisenia Tuitubou, said: “The Ministry of Youth and Sports is the lead agency supporting the youth sector. Therefore it is imperative that the Ministry gives its full support to such training” he said.
“Youths today experience many challenges, one of them being finding a job,” Mr. Tuitubou said. “I believe this type of training will greatly assist these young individuals in securing jobs for themselves and at the same time take the same message to their respective youth groups so helping them to find jobs.”
The Honourable Minister encouraged youths to be an inspiration for other youths and at the same time feel motivated when seeking a job.
“I know very well that looking for jobs can be very stressful at times,” he said. “During this phase you should place yourself in positive situation and disallow the negative thoughts in your head.” “You must rediscover your interest, set an achievable benchmark and be accountable for the steps taken in achieving your goals.”
All participants were awarded a certificate of participation at the end of the training.
