Youth clubs receive carpentry assistance
Suva, October 06 – Youth clubs in the Ra Province received carpentry assistance from the Ministry of Youth Sports yesterday.
The Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, the Honourable Iliesa Delana, officially handed over carpentry tools to 7 youth clubs. The Nokonoko, Mataveikai, Nabalabala, Vunisea, Burelevu, Nailuva and Balisere youth clubs were provided this assistance by the Ministry to further their carpentry skills with the tools provided.
These youth clubs undertook carpentry training which was facilitated by the Technical College of Fiji and funded by the Ministries of Youth and Sports and Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation. During the training, these youth clubs approached the Ministry as they had insufficient carpentry tools to carry out rehabilitation work in their respective villages following Tropical Cyclone Winston.
Many areas affected in the Ra province by Cyclone Winston are still in the rebuilding phase and lack basic carpentry tools to carry out reconstruction work.
The Youth Leader of Nokonoko Village thanked the Ministry for providing the tools which will enable the youths in carrying out rehabilitation work in the community.
Similar sentiments were shared by the representative from Tikina Tokaimalo, Mr. Peni Ravoka who said: “the carpentry tools will be put into good use and encourage youths to put into practice what they have learnt during the training”.
The Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports emphasised that “the training you undertook is to enable you to rebuild your homes and lives. Once you have completed this, please consider assisting other villages facing the same situation as you.”
