Fiji represented at the 14th Asia/Oceania Region Intergovernmental Ministerial Meeting on Anti-Doping
Suva, May 22 – The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Laisenia Tuitubou attended the 14th Asia/Oceania Region Intergovernmental Ministerial Meeting on Anti-Doping in sport held in Hangzhou, China on Monday and Tuesday this week.
Hon. Tuitubou also addressed the meeting and provided an update on Fiji’s progress on anti-doping policies in regards to sports.
“The Government of Fiji ratified the UNESCO Convention Against Doping in Sports in 2010,” said Hon Tuitubou in his presentation.
He added that Fiji’s Cabinet had also endorsed the National Anti-Doping Policy.
“It is strongly supported by the Fijian Government and we are in a process of passing our National Anti-Doping Act; which will establish Fiji’s Anti-Doping Agency formally,” he added.
Hon. Tuitubou also highlighted that “such platforms and government-led initiatives will not only protect the rights of athletes but are instrumental in promoting the integrity and clean sporting behaviour.”
As a State Party to the UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sports, Hon. Tuitubou also stated “that in compliance with the mandatory requirements of the Convention, Fiji has submitted its Code Compliance Questionnaire to the World Anti-Doping Agency.”
Fiji’s delegation to the Hangzhou meeting includes: Youth and Sports Minister Hon. Laisenia Tuitubou, Director for Youth and Sports, Mr George Francis and Second Secretary from the Fiji’s Embassy in China, Mrs Amelia Cobona.
