Jerseys to boost community partnership, development

Suva, January 02 – The Minister for Youth and Sports Honourable Laisenia Tuitubou on Wednesday, 30th December 2015 handed over a set of rugby uniforms to the Combine Service Rugby Team in Levuka.

“This assistance is to ensure that there is maximum unity among all civil servants in Levuka and most importantly enhance your community participation through sports,” said the Youth and Sports Minister Hon. Tuitubou.

“Sport is a positive and effective agent for social change and I am looking forward to hearing positive results of your team and how it will engage youths and community members of Ovalau,” Hon. Tuitubou told the team members and Government officials on last Wednesday.

Officer in Charge Levuka Prisons and team manager Kaliovati Rakayalo said; “Most of our team members are unemployed youths of Levuka and nearby villages.”

“Through this rugby club, we have developed growing relations with youths in Levuka,” said Rakayalo. “One youth has secured employment and we look forward to empowering more youths in the future.”

“Our club has been an avenue for community awareness of all services provided by Government and we hope to maintain our relations – between civil servants and members of the community; between us the servicemen and the youths,” said Mr Rakayalo.

Mr Rakayalo added that with the donation, they are looking forward to a good rugby outing and performance in 2016.
